Menciona la población como un gran vector económico. En España va en aumento y anima la economía. ¿Cómo ve el país? En España la inmigración ha sido un apoyo para el crecimiento. Lo ha hecho por partida doble. En primer lugar, hay más trabajadores, por lo que la economía crece. Pero, en segundo lugar, la inmigración casi siempre aumenta la productividad. Si tú, como individuo, estás dispuesto a dejar a tu familia, a tus amigos, a viajar a otro país para encontrar trabajo, es probable que seas más emprendedor y más arriesgado que la persona que se queda en casa. Es probable que el inmigrante sea un trabajador más productivo. A lo largo de la historia, siempre ha sido muy fácil culpar a los extranjeros, ya sean países o inmigrantes. Por definición, no son como nosotros. Una de las preocupaciones que tenemos es que se está observando en varios países del mundo un sentimiento antiinmigración. Es una reacción de esta economía del chivo expiatorio, y es una reacción muy comprensible. Pero como la inmigración tiende a impulsar el crecimiento, esa reacción puede ser perjudicial para el crecimiento a medio plazo. En España, ningún economista citaba hace años la inmigración como fórmula de crecimiento. Y nadie parece reivindicarla ahora. Es muy raro que la inmigración, en parte debido a la economía del chivo expiatorio y a los temores que genera, sea un objetivo político explícito. Puede serlo a veces. Por ejemplo, Singapur, hace 15 o 20 años, lanzó el mensaje de que necesitaba gente para crecer. La cuestión es que la inmigración también puede ser una señal de buenas políticas, además de generar crecimiento. No te mudas a un país donde vas a estar desempleado. En muchos sentidos, también es una señal de un entorno económico positivo.
